Great apps, sites for new moms
When I was pregnant, I remember receiving many books about being pregnant and having a new baby. These days, I am amazed at the number of websites and apps that are available for moms-to-be and new moms.
One website I remember being available back when I was pregnant was www.babycenter.com. I remember my mom signing up to track the baby’s development in the womb and sending me almost daily emails telling me that the baby was now as big as a — fill in the blank with items such as a pea, squash or other random objects.
You can even continue to use this website as a reference through your child’s development. The popular pregnancy book, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” also has a website, www.whattoexpect.com. This website also allows you to track through your pregnancy into toddler-hood. One thing this website offers is an ability to create a baby registry. It offers lists of popular items to start from which is very handy when you’re a first-time mom and really don’t know what you need.
You can share the list with family and friends and print it out and take it to a store to use as a reference.
How about an app to help a new mom track important information, such as amount of time spent feeding, or dirty diapers? One of the top-rated apps if you use Android is called Feed Baby – Tracker & Monitor. The free version is only a lite version, but many reviews say it’s well worth the money to purchase the pro version. This app will track bottle feeds and breast-feeding, diapers, sleep patterns, breast pumps, growth charts, and journals of your baby.
This can be especially handy when you take your baby to the doctor and are so sleep deprived that you can’t even remember if you showered! Another good thing about this app is that you can link multiple devices, which is good if you have multiple caregivers.
Another highly rated Android app is Baby Daybook. This app tracks many of the same things and touts that you can also include notes with each activity, such as “baby spit up halfway through feeding.”
In order to link multiple devices, you have to purchase the pro version of this app.
Both apps allow you to track multiple children.
Although these apps are not available for iOS, there’s no shortage of similar options in the iTunes store.
Knowing that there are all of these available resources almost makes me want to have another child.
The key word, however, is almost!
