Gerber Products Co. on Thursday announced a voluntarily recall on specific organic baby food pouches due to a packaging defect. The defect could result in products becoming spoiled during shipping to retailers.

The company is working with retailers to remove affected products from shelves but warned families to check their 3.5 ounce packages for recalled batch codes. The recall impacts only Gerber Organic 2nd Food Pouches in pears, carrots and peas or carrots, apples and mangoes flavors. The UPC codes for each recalled pouch are 15000074319 and 15000074395.

The pouches were available at different retailers across the United States and online. Customers can request a replacement coupon by calling the Gerber Parents Resource Center at 1-800-706-0556 anytime 24 hours a day.

"Consumers may notice that, in some cases, the pouches are bloated and product inside may have an off taste or odor," the recall notice states. "There have been three consumer reports of temporary gastrointestinal symptoms, however, we have been unable to confirm that these are related to the product. Consumers should not use the product, since it does not meet our high quality standards."
