SPARTANBURG LIBRARY’S #CURRENTLYREADING BOOK CLUB meets on Zoom to chat about books and play Bring Your Own Book. The January Book Box will be released as a Pick Me Up in coordination with #currentlyreading, so teens who attend are guaranteed a Book Box. Register at

THE HOLIDAYS CONTINUE 

WHITE CHRISTMAS – THE EXHIBITION, the first traveling exhibition dedicated to the classic 1954 movie, is opens through Jan. 30 at the Upcountry History Museum. In addition, the museum is partnering with Operation Waverly and Fellow Countrymen to collect items to help Greater Greenville’s homeless veterans. For details, visit upcountryhistory.org. 

THE NORTH CAROLINA ARBORETUM’S WINTER LIGHTS drive-through show allows guests to navigate through a one-mile stretch of the campus and see unique exhibits covered in thousands of holiday lights. The event is 5:30 – 10:30 p.m. (incoming gate closes at 10 p.m.) through Jan. 10. Pre-sale admission is $25 per personal vehicle and $30 at the gate the night of the event. ARTS, FUN AND LEARNING

SPARTANBURG YOUTH THEATRE’S WINTER-MESTER CLASSESbegin the week of Jan. 11 – 15. Classes for grades K4 – 12 are available. For details and registration, visit spartanburgyouththeatre.com/winterclasses.

ART CLASSES are offered by the City of Greer. Classes are in person, with masks required for all instructors and participants. All classes are located at the Edward R. BEHIND THE SCENES TOURS are offered at the Greenville Zoo. Tours are roughly 90 minutes long and take you behind the scenes to into the zoo’s kitchen, barns and up close to zoo residents. Tours are $250 and can be for up to six participants, ages 5 and older. Contact the education department to book your experience at 864-467-4850 or email zooed@greenvillesc.gov.

·      Virtual Storytime every Monday at 10 a.m. – Rhymes, songs, stories, puppets in quick Monday morning story times for practicing early literacy skills.

·      Project FeederWatch every Friday and Saturday through April 3 – Visit the Children’s Courtyard at the Main Library and participate in FeederWatch. If you see birds at the feeders, identify them with the poster or the Merlin app, write down your findings on the tally sheet, and receive a free pair of kid-friendly binoculars (one per child, while supplies last). TEXT 2 READ, for parents of preschoolers, provides free weekly text messages offering practical tips and activities to promote reading readiness. Texts are created from South Carolina’s early learning standards and are segmented for early preschoolers, 36 – 48 months old or older preschoolers, 48 – 60 months old. Text 2 Read also provides parents with information to monitor their child’s growth and developmental milestones. To sign up, can text T2R to 734-5BOOK52 (734-526-6552).

DO BASICS, weekly text messaging from the Palmetto Basics, gives parents and caregivers tips that align with the Palmetto Basics’ monthly theme. For Spanish, text “losbasics” to 888-111.
