THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF THE UPSTATE offers full-day classes and after-school care for the 2020-2021 school year. The partnership between TCMU and World Explorers is designed to provide flexible options for eLearning support and engagement within TCMU’s museum spaces, as parents navigate a shifting school schedule of both in-person and virtual learning. HUNGER GAMES VIRTUAL ESCAPE ROOM for ages 11 – 17 is available from Greenville County Library. Knowledge of the books series is not necessary to complete this activity, but it would provide some context. There is no time limit. Visit

AVATAR: CHOOSE YOUR STORY, an online adventure for ages 11 – 17, is based on “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” You do not need to know the story to enjoy this activity. Visit

PERCY JACKSON: VIRTUAL ESCAPE ROOM is a virtual activity based on the books by Rick Riordan. Knowledge of this series or Greek mythology may be helpful, but is not necessary to complete this activity. There is no time limit. This virtual challenge was created with teens and adults in mind, so children may need extra help. Visit

ONLINE SCHOOL AND HOMEWORK HELP for kids and teens is available for free through Sept. 30 from through a program of the SC State Library. Real time tutoring is available from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily. TEXT 2 READ, for parents of preschoolers, provides free weekly text messages offering practical tips and activities to promote reading readiness. Texts are created from South Carolina’s early learning standards and are segmented for early preschoolers, 36 – 48 months old or older preschoolers, 48 – 60 months old. NATURE CONNECTS: ART WITH LEGO BRICKS is open through Nov. 1 at the North Carolina Arboretum. Composed of nearly 500,000 LEGO bricks, the exhibit includes 16 nature-inspired sculptures constructed on a larger-than-life scale by artist Sean Kenney. This family-friendly exhibit draws inspiration from the living world and combines play with science to create an innovative intersection of education, entertainment and the environment. THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF SHERLOCK HOLMES is open at the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia. Learn about the practices of Sherlock Holmes, the world in which Conan Doyle drew from to develop his stories and the history of forensic science. Sherlock Exhibition tickets are $17.95 each for adults, $15.95 each for seniors (ages 62 and older) and $13.95 each for children (ages 3 –12) and include museum general admission.
