Greenville author Jo Watson Hackl, author of the award-winning middle grade novel “Smack Dab in the Middle of Maybe,” launched a Building Grit Kit that uses her book to build self-awareness, learn resiliency and set personal goals for children and their families. Hackl’s goal is for the project’s message of positivity to help families use this time at home to reset, recharge, and prepare for the future.

The Building Grit Kit, which includes simple activities such as writing a letter to yourself, identifying your (and others’) superpowers and creating a vision board, was developed by Hackl with the help of professional educators and a neuroscientist. Hackl shared it with her newsletter subscribers before taking to social media and posting it to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with the hashtag #BuildingGritwithJo. It is downloadable from Hackl’s website along with other free resources for readers, parents, and educators.
