Before your daughter has her first period, you will give her the information she needs to be ready. But it is important to provide the stuff she needs, too. Keeping a “first period kit” – one you make or one you buy – at home and a streamlined version for her backpack or locker can empower her to be ready.
Several companies have ready-to-use kits or you can choose supplies and make your own custom version.
My First Period Company ($24.99 https://www.myfirstperiod.co) offers a travel kit that includes a selection of menstrual hygiene supplies as well as a pair of “rescue undies” and more.
Lola’s First Period Kit ($34, https://www.mylola.com/products/first-period-kit) includes a selection of 100 percent certified organic cotton period products, a travel pouch, a free downloadable digital guide and more. It comes in a storage box for home and also includes an instructional card for each product.
Lady Box, an organic period care and comfort subscription box, offers a Lil’ Lady Box first period kit ($39.95 www.JoinLadyBox.com). It includes basics, plus a pouch, an “oops bag” and first period guide, as well as comfort and fun items, including chocolate, temporary tattoos and more.
