Celebrate World Kindness Day
As the holidays approach, we find ourselves busier, more strapped for cash and colder – both literally and maybe figuratively.
Enter World Kindness Day. Nov. 13 is celebrated as World Kindness Day, so no matter where you are or what you do, spread a little kindness everywhere you go. This is a day to smile a little more, give more compliments and treat everyone with a little more respect. This day comes at just the right time to get us in a great mood for being thankful on Thanksgiving and getting into the giving spirit for Christmas and Hanukkah.
What can you do to celebrate?
· Random acts of kindness. Pay for the coffee for the person behind you in line at Starbucks or bring treats to the office for everyone – just because. You could also hold the door a little longer for someone to get in, or graciously give someone that prime parking spot.
· Hug people. Hug your kids extra-long and give your spouse extra attention, too. You can also make an effort to hug friends or maybe shake hands with someone at work, give them a genuine smile and look them in the eyes. Physical contact goes a long way in making people feel appreciated.
· Write a letter. It doesn’t have to be much, but a note of thanks for your mailperson or your child’s teacher for their efforts goes a long way. Maybe you have an assistant or coworker who could use some encouragement. Even telling your spouse and children that you love them can make them feel special.
· Be kind to yourself. Today’s parents are quick to beat themselves up for every little infraction. Give yourself grace on World Kindness Day. Treat yourself to that special coffee you like, give yourself a pedicure or do something to make yourself smile. You deserve it.
World Kindness Day doesn’t have to be grand gestures, just little things to make life a little better, a little easier and put a smile on someone’s face. The feeling is contagious. Give it a try this Nov!
