Dine Out for Mom is Oct. 24
Skip the cooking Thursday, Oct. 24 – and know that eating out is for a great cause.
Dine Out for Mom is the largest fundraiser of the year for Let There Be Mom, a local nonprofit organization that helps mothers and fathers preserve a legacy for their families when the mom or dad faces a life-threatening illness. Eligible families must have a child younger than 18 living in the home and the illness must be such that without treatment, the condition would result in a life expectancy of two years or less.
The fundraiser is simple: dine out – or get takeout or buy gift cards – at any of the 100 participating restaurants and 20 percent of total sales all day long will be donated to Let There Be Mom. Finish your holiday shopping with gift cards that give back.
“Stock your freezer, buy something for teachers,” LTBM founder Kipra Anderson said. “It’s a great excuse not to cook and you help preserve legacies.”
Legacies are quite personal and are adapted to the needs and desires of each mom or dad served. LTBM’s help has resulted in a variety of special memories preserved by parents for children, including professional photographs, carefully chosen gifts for future special events, personalized jewelry and more. Creating those future gifts for their children lets parents focus on their treatment and on spending precious time with their family.
Last year’s Dine Out for Mom brought in more than $55,000 just from restaurants. Corporate sponsors add to the tally and a raffle helps as well. This year’s raffle includes a grand prize of 100 gift cards to one lucky winner. That’s one gift card from each of the participating restaurants. There are other prizes as well, including a vacation getaway.
Funds raised stay in the Upstate to support local families.
“It is truly local,” Anderson said.
