New exhibit gets little ones ready to explore The Great Outdoors

On Saturday, Oct. 12, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate – Greenville unveiled a a whole new experience.

The Great Outdoors, a new exhibit that celebrates wildlife and natural resources indigenous to the Upstate, includes interactive activities for families that celebrate nature and foster an appreciation for spending time outdoors.

Kids will be able to get some hands-on experience that introduces them to camping – letting parents set the stage for planning a real outdoor adventure. The exhibit features a campsite with a tent, camp kitchen, camp gear and canoe. Work together to build a campfire, read camping stories and learn to tie knots associated with camping and outdoor activities.

Explore nature with livestream videos of birds around the world and then get outside at Heritage Green for more interactive fun. Planned in partnership with Trees Upstate, The Great Outdoors also includes a tree identification walk around Heritage Green that includes a map and accompanying video identifying and classifying nine trees around the campus.

The exhibit is open Tuesday – Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is included in the cost of daily museum admission. For more information visit and
