Just For Mom's Fitness: Shred415

Short on time but need a full workout? Shred415, a program that is new to the Upstate, combines four 15-minute intervals to challenge fitness seekers of all levels.

The facility, located in Greenville, also features a childcare program for ages 6 weeks – 13 years. Teens can participate in the workout.

Owners Brad and Joy Howard discovered the program at its home location in Chicago.

“I’m a physician,” Brad Howard said. “I practiced emergency medicine for many years in the Upstate.”

In 2011, Brad Howard took a job in Chicago but the family kept their home in the Upstate. They started taking Shred415 classes in 2012.

“We were hooked,” Brad Howard said.

While Joy Howard and the couple’s son, Cooper, spent part of the winter in the milder Upstate climate, Brad Howard said Shred415 participants became like family. When the Howards returned to the Upstate for good, they were in the first group of the company’s franchisees, opening their facility in April of this year.

The four intervals of the workout combine treadmill work and strength training. Modifications are available for every exercise to account for fitness level, injury, pregnancy and more. Drills of up to four minutes in length build and then allow time for recovery. Floor work with bands and dumbbells match the intensity of the treadmill portion of the workout.

“We don’t count reps,” Brad Howard said. “You work at your own pace.”

Lockers, changing stations, showers and a makeup and hair area are available.

Joy Howard said the workout is just an hour, but it can help moms find space for themselves.

“If you can’t help yourself, you won’t be there for others,” she said. “You have to take care of yourself.”

Brad Howard said working out three or four times a week can make a difference both physically and mentally.

“It’s clinically shown that this type of interval training will change your body,” he said. “It will make you feel like a different person. I can tell you that form personal experience.”

Shred415 is located at 823 S. Church St., Greenville. The first class is free. For details, visit
