TCMU sponsorship benefits financial literacy programs for families
The Children's Museum of the Upstate (TCMU) recently announced a sponsorship in the amount of $10,000 from the Piedmont Chapter of the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (SCACPA), which represents more than 4,000 CPAs and accounting professionals throughout the state.
The sponsorship funds will be applied to the Museum’s Finances for the Family program, a hands-on, family-based financial literacy series built to educate both parents and children. Since 2013, the SCACPA’s support of the museum maintained the TCMU’s Money Works bank exhibit, which has inspired the Museum’s financial literacy programming, including Finances for the Family.
TCMU’s President and CEO Nancy Halverson said the museum could not offer this impactful program without the help of SCACPA.
“Their generosity and funding support has given TCMU the ability to empower parents and children with the outlook of a stable financial future.” She added, “During the past two years, this program has given participants hope, drive, and understanding of the possibilities they will have if they can save, curb spending, and make better choices financially.”
Becky Goessel, chair of the Piedmont chapter of SC Association of CPA’s, said the organization is happy the sponsorship for the museum’s Finances for the Family program will continue to allow families to learn and make better choices together about effective financial strategies.
“SCACPA believes in giving back to our community by supporting non-profit organizations like TCMU, and it is wonderful to see the positive results these outreach efforts bring to families and children,” she said.
The Children's Museum of the Upstate in downtown Greenville is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to sparking a lifelong passion for curiosity and learning through play. As the nation's seventh largest children's museum and first children's museum to become a Smithsonian Affiliate, TCMU engages communities through interactive exhibits, online resources and award-winning public and youth education programs.
