Greenville County Schools released a bulletin noting that important school deadlines are nearing, and spokesperson Beth Brotherton encourages families not to wait until the last minute to register new students or request transportation for the new school year.

“We need parents to know that waiting until August presents a serious challenge for administrators,” she said via email. “Principals need accurate head counts now. Principals must know how many teachers they need at each grade level. They are assigning students to the teachers they have and adhering to class size restrictions. If they have an influx of new students they need to know quickly whether to hire additional staff.”

Parents should go to the school where they are assigned to register their children. If you do not know which school your children are zoned for, call the district’s information line at 864-355-3100 or go to the “find your school” feature on its website and search by neighborhood.

Students who will need to ride the school bus must also be registered by July 31.

Transportation request forms for new bus-riding students or students who have new addresses must be submitted by Monday.

“The transportation department is inputting this information now so the routing software can create the most timely and fuel efficient bus schedules possible,” Brotherton said. “They want to give parents an accurate time and location for bus pick up. Any requests for transportation turned in after the upcoming Monday deadline will not be routed until after Labor Day.”

Forms can be found on the district’s website. They should returned to your child’s assigned school.

Students return to school in Greenville County Aug. 22.
