Families with plans to attend Friday Starry Nights at Roper Mountain Science Center should mark it off their calendars this weekend.

Roper Mountain Science Center announced via e-mail newsletter and its website that the giant dome theater and planetarium has been temporarily closed until further notice.

"While performing routine maintenance, mold was found in the upper sections of the Planetarium at Roper Mountain Science Center," a statement on RoperMountain.org reads. "The Planetarium building has been closed in order for a more detailed inspection to take place."

A plan and timeline for its reopening will be addressed after the inspection is complete, it continues.

Anyone who has pre-purchased tickets for Friday Starry Nights will receive a full refund by calling 864-355-8904.

Roper Mountain Science Center features public programs each Friday and the second Saturday of each month. It is located at 402 Roper Mountain Road in Greenville.
