When Eric Cook received a phone call recently to help make a child’s dream come true, he grabbed one of his work uniforms and responded without hesitation.

A few hours later, he was on Studio 62 on WYCW TV, surprising a child who always wanted to meet a superhero.

As owner of Kid-N-Play Rentals, based in Gaffney, Cook is used to being called upon to dress as a child’s favorite character, whether it be for birthday parties or the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

“We do a lot of charitable work,” he said. “We’re always happy to give back and especially to bring a smile to a child’s face.”

Kid-N-Play Rentals is a mascot rental business serving the entire Upstate, and after only a year in business, it has proven popular among parents and local businesses, Cook said.

“We’re professional, dependable and we have a lot of energy,” he said. “We’re a complete entertainment package.”

Cook said the company brings theme music and prizes along with their actors in character attire, and they allow anyone who wishes to take photos with them. With rates starting at $100, Kid-N-Play Rentals gives parents the opportunity to keep children entertained during parties and special events.

Rentals are also available to businesses, Cook said.

“We have a strong following, and when we announce on Facebook that we’re going to be somewhere, we bring customers out,” he said.

In fact, Kid-N-Play Rentals is partnering with Mr. Gatti’s in Spartanburg starting in November. Characters from Kid-N-Play Rentals will be in the restaurant offering entertainment to children for a few hours on Sunday afternoons.

“It’s a great way for parents to bring their kids out, and at no extra charge, they can see firsthand what kind of service we provide,” Cook said. “Hopefully they’ll remember us when it comes time to plan that next birthday party.”

Cook said Kid-N-Play Rentals is willing to travel within 100 miles of Gaffney to perform at parties or events.

Among its collection are 40-plus cartoon-themed characters.

Cook said he also has partnerships with other venues that welcome him and his employees to participate in parties held there.
