In my experience, the answer to the question “how many purses do you need?” is always just one more. You can never have too many, but if you need an excuse to buy just one more handbag, Handbags for Hope, sponsored by the South Carolina Ovarian Cancer Foundation, has you covered.

Even better than getting a great new bag is knowing that your purchase helped raise funds for a great cause.

The annual event is 6 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Huguenot Loft at the Peace Center. The evening promises great food from Good Life Catering, Folonari wines and features both a silent auction and a live auction. While handbags are the featured items auctioned, many are paired with gift cards and gift items.

Some of this year’s special features include a Dooney and Bourke Clemson bag signed by Dabo Swinney, a teal bicycle and pottery by Greenville’s own Dr. Larry Puls.

The purchase of handbags and attendance at the event helps the foundation give “Bags of Hope” to newly diagnosed patients. These bags contain items designed to help a woman who is undergoing chemotherapy and are delivered by cancer survivors. The foundation also raises funds for research and conducts community awareness to help women recognize the signs of ovarian cancer. In fact, the group will be giving out symptom cards during the month of September during Turn our Towns Teal events.

Grab your favorite teal dress and your best girlfriends and find your favorite new purse at Handbags for Hope. Tickets are $40 and are available at www.scovariancancer.org.
