Homemade beauty: Three fun, easy-to-make gifts
I love receiving a homemade gift.
It means so much when the giver has taken the time to create something especially for me. When we think of homemade, we often think of foods or crafts, but a homemade beauty product makes a great girlfriend gift. Shannon Belouin, a Young Living independent distributor in Spartanburg, tries to use as many natural beauty products as possible. Here, she shares some of her favorite recipes with Upstate Parent.
Silky-smooth face and body cream
“This face and body cream is naturally fragrant, skin supporting, easy to make, and goes on silky smooth,” Belouin said.
You’ll need 1 cup of coconut oil, Young Living Lavender Essential Oil and Young Living Frankincense Essential Oil.
Scoop 1 cup of coconut oil into a glass bowl. Add 2 – 3 drops of lavender essential oil and 2 – 3 drops of frankincense oil. Use a hand mixer at a low setting until the oils are thoroughly blended. Store in a small glass container with a lid.
Easy and nourishing makeup remover pads
“This is a quick, easy, and natural way to remove your makeup and leave your skin feeling smooth,” Belouin said.
You’ll need organic cotton rounds, 1 tablespoon unscented Dr. Bronner’s castile soap, a half-teaspoon of witch hazel, 1 tablespoon coconut oil and hot water.
Fill a glass jar with hot water. Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of castile soap and stir. Add a half-teaspoon of witch hazel and stir again. Add cotton rounds to your jar (about two-thirds of the jar height) and let the mixture saturate the cotton rounds.
For fragrance, you can add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil.
Natural no-frizz hair spritz
“This is a quick and easy recipe to tame fly away frizzy hair,” Belouin said. “It is helpful for my fine hair and also assists many with thick curls.”
You’ll need an 8-ounce spray bottle, filtered or distilled water and Young Living Peace and Calming Essential Oil or Young Living Patchouli Essential Oil.
Add water to the spray bottle until it is three-quarters of the way full. Add 3 – 4 drops of an essential oil and replace the spray nozzle. Shake the bottle and spritz your hair.
