Get ready for holiday guests
Lori Donaldson is always expecting guests.
As the owner of Pettigru Place in downtown Greenville, it is her mission to make sure guests are warmly welcomed. As the holidays approach, many of us will welcome friends and family into our homes. We asked Donaldson to give us a few tips for making sure that our guests have a memorable experience.
Add beautiful touches to your guest room. “I put fresh flowers in each room,” Donaldson said. “You should also leave lights on in the room to make it more welcoming.”
Look for ways to make the room more comfortable. “Put bedside tables on each side of the bed and equip them with lamps for nighttime reading,” she said. “Have chairs so guests can have a seat. A luggage rack is a nice touch.”
Little extras show you care. “I iron and starch the sheets and pillow cases,” Donaldson said. “When family is coming to visit, I put a bowl of wrapped chocolates in the room.”
Don’t forget the bathroom. “Keep a basket of toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and other things guests might forget,” Donaldson said. “Leave towels out so that guests don’t have to search the closet.”
Prepare favorite meals, but have options for eating out. “I always cook for my guests, but I also keep a folder with menus from local restaurants so that my guests can decide where they would like to go.”
Create a list of area events. “Know what is going on in town,” Donaldson said. “Prepare things that you know your guest will find enjoyable. My mom loves antiques, so I make a list of antique stores to visit. Everyone is different.”
