We used to have an expression in the Army, “The truth changes.”

I often think about this phrase now in regards to food and nutrition information I see online or that Ingles Markets customers ask me about.

Here are a few things to remember:

1. Be open to new information ... BUT

2. Make sure you get your information from reliable, science-based and educated sources.

3. What you believe to be the truth about food and nutrition may change over time in response to new research and science.

4. Don’t confuse your opinion with facts based on science-based information and research.

I’ve been a Registered Dietitian (RD) for more than 20 years. As new nutrition research has been done, some of my opinions and what I say or recommend has changed ... and that’s OK.

In order to keep current with new information I attend classes, lectures and conferences, participate in webinars, read articles and talk to experts. As a Registered Dietitian I’m required to complete continuing education, it amounts to about 15 to 20 hours annually, but I usually do more.
