Eggs Up Grill makes eating out a family friendly experience

One of the most family friendly restaurants in Greenville can be found nestled between The Warehouse Theater and Mellow Mushroom in downtown Greenville, and you might not realize it.

Eggs Up Grill, located at 31 Augusta St., has a trendy, welcoming dining room, but once you sit down at a table with your kids, you’ll start to see why this is an excellent choice for your little ones, regardless of whether it’s breakfast or lunch. Friendly wait staff deliver a children’s menu on a coloring or activity sheet, and kids 10 years old and younger can choose any three of 13 items for their meal. They have their pick of egg, toast, an omelet, bacon or sausage, a kid-sized waffle, banana, fruit, pancake, grits, grilled cheese sandwich, tuna sandwich, egg salad sandwich or chips. It comes with a beverage for $5.25.

Children always seem delighted when they order pancakes that arrive shaped like Mickey Mouse.

Owner Stan Freemon says he strives for the restaurant to be family friendly. That’s why the restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol, cooks only use AA-rated eggs (meaning they’re always fresh), and Freemon often invites kids back to the kitchen to teach them how to make a waffle on the restaurant’s nonporous grill. The grill is also why the dining room never smells like bacon the way many breakfast restaurants do, Freemon says.

Parents will also fall in love with the selections available on their large menu. If you’re a fan of eggs benedict, I highly recommend trying the Hash Benedict, which features two poached eggs over corned beef hash on an English muffin with Hollandaise sauce. It’s my favorite thing on the menu, but I haven’t eaten anything there yet that I wouldn’t recommend.

Their menu includes everything from scrambled eggs and omelets to waffles and French toast for breakfast, and burgers, sandwiches, soups and salads for lunch. And, did I mention the kid’s pancakes are shaped like Mickey Mouse?

The bottom line: From great service to delicious food, Eggs Up Grill is a great choice for dining out with kids in downtown Greenville.

Eat Out tip: If things aren’t too busy, ask your waiter if your child can learn how to make a waffle. Plus, I recommend substituting a biscuit for an English muffin if you try the eggs benedict. The dish basically melts in your mouth!
