The new Two Chefs Café & Market location, at the corner of Stone Avenue and Main Street in downtown Greenville, is adorable.

Bright and sunny, with fresh flowers and plenty of seating, it is a welcome addition to the area. What’s new? The hours. Two Chefs now opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m.

Super friendly servers deliver your order on real plates; the foam plates used at the old downtown location are history. The menu has expanded too, spanning breakfast and dinner.

My favorite dish on the menu: the salad sampler. I remember feeding my babies bites off this plate: small bits of fruit or chicken, biscuit or salad. But the cranberry wild rice salad? That was all mine, down to the last grain. I still cannot replicate this salad and I’ve tried again and again. How chefs Judy and Bill Balsizer keep it cold yet toothsome is beyond me.

My kids are school age. Chip will order something new every time — a big sandwich or a bowl of homemade soup with an herbed biscuit — and can far out-eat me, but my daughter, Scottie, still likes the children’s menu. Her Two Chefs order: fish sticks. These are all-cod filets, hand battered and really delicious. With some tots and a wee bowl of gummy bears, she’s a happy diner. Want to replace the candy with fruit or veggies? Just ask. There’s always an option at Two Chefs.

Eat Out! tip: Come to Two Chefs for breakfast. There are lots of choices (nearly all made in house), good coffee and Wi-Fi; yes, that could be me at the corner table.

The bottom line

Two locations of Two Chefs make this momma happy she lives in Greenville. Handmade food, efficient service, owned by chefs adds up to a winning equation.
