Bubba’s BBQ & Bash in Spartanburg offers great food for kids
Bubba’s BBQ & Bash has served “Good Mood Food” in West Spartanburg for nearly 15 years. All the staples are represented at Bubba’s: pulled pork, ribs, two types of hash, calabash chicken, country steak, sausage, burgers, fries and rings, beans, slaw, and of course hush puppies.
If you haven’t been to Bubba’s you will notice this first: it’s very clean. Let’s face it, a lot of barbecue places (especially those that still smoke over wood) don’t feel exactly fresh.
The whole team at Bubba’s is tidy and efficient, from placing your order at the counter to delivering food to your table.
Combination plates are really the way to go on a first visit.
Order a three-meat plate with a choice of two sides and feed at least one child (if not two) from it as well as yourself. Need a kid’s plate? They’re a cool $3.99. Choose from calabash chicken, a barbecue sandwich, a cheeseburger or a grilled cheese sandwich, along with a side and a drink.
Ribs fall off the bone, the pulled pork is appropriately moist and the chicken hash is old-school good. House-made sauce — mild, hot and mustard — sits tableside and can really take your plate over the top.
The fried okra is fantastic and noteworthy; I’m a big okra fan and Bubba’s has some of the best I’ve had in South Carolina.
Eat Out! tip: A comprehensive to-go menu with bulk options means you may want to bring dinner home.
The bottom line
Wood-smoked barbecue in a super-clean restaurant is a dream come true at Bubba’s.
