10 Students Who Make a Difference: Kolben Wood
Kolben Wood is often found asking how he can be of help.
An 11-year-old student at Six Mile Elementary and the oldest of four children of Stephen and Christina Wood, Kolben isn’t afraid to stand out from the crowd.
“I’ve always said Kolben has that potential to be that great kid because of his positive attitude,” Christina Wood said. “I think it’s cool that he dares to be different.”
At school, Kolben is a chorus member, had a lead role in the school’s production of “The Lion King” and is a safety patrol officer. He plays basketball and football and is actively involved in his church.
“I like to be different but I like to help others,” Kolben said. “I just like helping others – making a difference.”
Kolben works with kindergarten students at school, serving as a mentor and a reading buddy.
“I’ll help if they need help,” he said. “If they can’t understand a certain word, I help. I like reading.”
Kolben said he would like to play basketball when he is older, but no matter what his profession, he wants to embrace having a good time.
“I have fun mostly wherever I go,” he said. “I want others to feel the same. I want the fun to spread.”
