Weekend events for kids include LEGO Store grand opening events, more
It’s Super Bowl weekend, but families still have opportunities to enjoy non-football activities this weekend before the big game.
Although the store has officially been open since late November, The LEGO Store inside Haywood Mall will host its grand opening this weekend, starting at 11 a.m. Friday. The first customers to make qualifying purchases each day through Sunday will receive free Legos, shirts, sets and more. Call 864-288-5449 for details.
Friday night is Pirates and Princesses Night at the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Children are encouraged to dress in costume and join the Rabbits for its annual scavenger hunt during the game starting at 7 p.m. Prizes will be given. For details, visit www.swamprabbits.com.
Chautauqua: An Evening with Napoleon Gala kicks off a living history weekend starting at 7 p.m. Friday at the Younts Center for Performing Arts in Fountain Inn. Internationally acclaimed stage and film star Mark Schneider from Colonial Williamsburg appears as the one of the most polarizing figures in modern history. The event will include a performance, reception, and exclusive meet-and-greet with “Napoleon.” Cost is $50. “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” will be presented by South Carolina Children’s Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, and 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Peace Center. Best for ages 3 and older, this new to SCCT production is based on the novel by Richard and Florence Atwater. The play follows a house painter who dreams of an adventure to the Antartic. When a letter he writes about it gets read on the radio, someone sends him a penguin as a gift. Then the zoo sends him another penguin, and suddenly, his house is filled with baby penguins.
