Single parents can find a world of resources in one stop at the Upstate Single Parent Resource Fair at Grace Church Powdersville, 6:30 – 8 p.m. Aug. 14.

“The purpose of the event is to equip single parent families within the Anderson and Greenville areas to help them thrive and help them support their kids,” said Melissa Ramirez, Care and Recovery Coordinator at Grace Church.

The event is free and includes dinner, activities for children and teens and more. Registration is requested. A wide variety of community resource organizations will be on hand to provide information to parents, including Anderson and Greenville WIC, United Ministries, Fatherhood Coalition, Greenville County and Anderson District 1 Schools, Greenville Health System, St. Francis Health System, Salvation Army Greenville, SPIN, United Way and more.

“Parents will be able to drop their kids off to an area where we will have activities for the kids to do,” Ramirez said. “The Child Life team at Greenville Health System is coming and they are going to put on a teddy bear clinic.”

Parents will be able to participate in a session about healthy boundaries, followed by dinner for parents and children. Parents will then go to the resource fair. The event is open to all parents, but it is specifically designed to help meet the unique needs of single parents.

“We know that the isolation and the challenges they encounter are great,” Ramirez said. “It’s where our heart lies. They are going to be able to learn about new resources in the community they might not even know are there.”
