Aside from the South Carolina Children’s Theatre’s main lineup of shows, the youngest fans of the theater will also be treated to new shows from the 2nd Stage and WeePlay Theatre this year — in new locations.

Michelle Ward, marketing director for the S.C. Children’s Theatre, said WeePlay Theatre, Tell Me a Story Theatre, classes, rehearsals, Kindermusik and the theater’s offices will be located at 1200 Pendleton St., Greenville, while the theater’s new location is being constructed across from Fluor Field at the West End. Second Stage productions will be performed at The Salvation Army Kroc Center, 424 Westfield St., Greenville. Main Stage productions will continue to be performed at the Gunter Theater at the Peace Center in Greenville.

WeePlay Theatre caters to young children, offering them an introduction to theater with interactive shows they can participate in.

“Wake Up, Brother Bear!’ was hugely successful last year and we extended the run by several months,” Ward said.

This year’s WeePlay production will be “Balloonacy,” opening in September with various run times. The production follows a single balloon, which starts by drifting through the window of a lonely old man’s home on his birthday. Surprising, wonderful and fun things happen. Children will see how a single balloon can change one person’s life without realizing they’ve learned about friendship along the way, Ward said.

The theater’s 2nd Stage lineup kicks off in October with “The Boy Who Cried Bully” and concludes with “Dragons Love Tacos” in April. Shows will include:

»“The Boy Who Cried Bully,” Oct. 27 – Nov. 5. SCCT’s popular bullying prevention show has previously only toured at elementary schools in the Upstate but will be performed for the public this fall.

»“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” Feb. 23 – March 3. This timeless classic from C.S. Lewis will present the first in his “Chronicles of Narnia” book series, adapted for the stage.

»“Dragons Love Tacos,” April 13 – 21. Adapted from the New York Times best seller, “Dragons Love Tacos” is a fun tale of new friends and the perfect snack, and full of fiery fun for the entire family.
