Greenville school to close Friday due to illness
Shannon Forest Christian School announced earlier today it will be closed Friday due to illness amongst students and staff.
In a Facebook post, the school stated all classes will be closed so the campus can air out over a 72-hour period.
The announcement follows a report Monday in The Greenville News that 84 students and 10 teachers were absent Monday from Augusta Circle Elementary School Monday because of illness.
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System joined other Upstate hospitals Thursday in limiting visitor visitation because of the flu.
Flu season typically runs from October to May, peaking in February. The incidence of flu has been increasing over the past four weeks.
Symptoms of flu include sudden onset of fever, headache, extreme fatigue, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose and muscle aches. Children may also have nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website says the best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated. Other suggestions include staying home when you are sick, covering your mouth and nose, cleaning your hands, and avoiding contact with others who are sick.
