Memorial Day Weekend is here, bringing with it many opportunities to get outside and have fun throughout the Upstate.

The Fair at Heritage Park continues through Sunday at Heritage Park in Simpsonville. Admission is $7, and free for children 6 and younger. Rides cost extra, but there are daily specials, such as $20 for unlimited rides Sunday. The event includes free shows, such a magic show, K9s in Flight, an exotic petting zoo, and more. Starry Nights is Friday at Roper Mountain Science Center. Show times are 6, 7:30 and 8:45 p.m. at the T. C. Hooper Planetarium. The 6 and 7:30 p.m. feature will be “Perfect Little Planet.” The 8:45 p.m. feature will be “Exploding Universe.” The Daniel Observatory will also be open, weather permitting, for viewing through the 23-inch telescope. Gallabrae - The Greenville Scottish Games will open with the Great Scot Parade at 6 p.m. Friday in downtown Greenville. Festivities continue at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Furman University. Greenville County Rec’s Waterparks will open Saturday for the season. The Merrell Adventure Dash is Saturday at Nantahala Outdoor Center. Suitable for families as well as adults, participants will negotiate a series of natural and man-made obstacles along the 5K course, including balance components, climbs and nets, a river-run and raft crossing. Pink on Pleasantburg will hold its grand opening event at 2551 N. Pleasantburg Dr., Greenville. Pink on Pleasantburg brings the same fun mom and pop hand-scooped ice cream shop feeling of Pink Mama's Ice Cream in Travelers Rest with new options of a drive-thru and walk-up window. Customers can play family games like cornhole and enjoy the picnic shelter on hot summer days. Saturday’s activities start at 11 a.m. and include a fire truck, face painting, bounce house, balloon artist and car show.

Greenville Animal Care will partner with Big O Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram in Greenville to host a free large dog adoption event 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. WSSL 100 will provide music. A cookout will also be held.

Paris Mountain State Park will hold a program on water animals at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interpretive Ranger Cathy Taylor will present “Suited to Swim.” Many of Paris Mountain’s animals are adapted to life in or near water. Help look for salamanders, frogs, ducks, and aquatic insects, as well as signs of beavers. Activities include wading into Mountain Creek, so participants may want to bring shoes that can get wet. Cost is $7 per person, payable at the welcome station instead of admission. Meet at Park Center. Registration is required. Limit 30.
