There are plenty of activities happening around the Upstate this weekend for families.
A Creek Ranger Hike begins at 10 a.m. Friday at Paris Mountain State Park. The event is a one-mile, ranger-led walk. The cost is $7 each, payable at the gate instead of park admission. Registration is required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Call 864-244-5565 or email email@example.com.
Do your kids love Legos and building things? A free Block Party is at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hughes Main Library. Visit greenvillelibrary.org for all the details.
Starry Nights is at Roper Mountain Science Center. Show times are 6, 7:15 and 8:45 p.m. Friday at the T. C. Hooper Planetarium. Each show will begin with Carolina Skies, a live talk about the constellations, followed by the featured show. The 6 p.m. feature will be “Magic Treehouse Space Mission.” The 7:15 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. feature will be “Eclipse: The Sun Revealed.” The Daniel Observatory will also be open from 7:30 – 10 p.m., weather permitting, for viewing through the 23-inch telescope. A Dragonfly Summer: Dash is 10 a.m. – noon Saturday at Lake Conestee Nature Park. Join Furman Graduate student Mara Chamlee for a guided walk around the park in search of dragonflies. The Big Latch On will be held 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at Modern Cloth, 1374 N. Pleasantburg Dr., Greenville, and 10 a.m. – noon at the Boiling Springs Library. This nationwide event promotes and supports breastfeeding. The community is invited to show their support through special family-friendly activities. The Shops at Greenridge will host a handful of kid-friendly events Saturday, starting with meet and greets with superheroes and princesses 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the open-air market. The open-air market hosts a variety of different vendors along the common area between Brixx and Barnes & Noble selling their handmade crafts and local produce. Later in the day, there will be a free outdoor screening of “Boss Baby” beginning at dusk. Trailblazer Park in Travelers Rest will host a free outdoor movie screening of “Sing” starting at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Vendors will be in the park selling popcorn, hot dogs and ice cream, and you can always pack your own family picnic basket. No alcohol is permitted. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy the show. Family Fun Day is 1 – 4 p.m. Sunday at the Upcountry History Museum. Explore fire safety and meet Greenville City Fire Department firefighters and see one of their trucks up close.
