Whether you’re thinking about having kids or already a parent to young children, The Upstate Birth & Baby Expo is aimed at connecting you with providers throughout the Upstate.

The free event, planned for 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday at McAlister Square in Greenville, is sponsored by the Upstate Birth Network.

Jen Conway, one of three co-leaders for the Upstate Birth Network, said the expo is ideal for expecting, new, and parents of up to 5 year olds.

“We have about 80-plus vendors for the event,” she said. “This is our third year. It used to be in Western North Carolina, but we took it over back in 2014.”

The free event will feature fashion shows, games, children’s activities, speakers, and lots of giveaways. Ashley Minelli of Fox Carolina will be the emcee. Food trucks will be on site.

“It’s a fun event,” Conway said. “We have a daddy diapering challenge and princess for a day events. There are lots of helpful workshops for expecting parents, too. Pediatricians, lactation consultants, chiropractors, jewelers — there will be all kinds of people and events there.”

She said the biggest draw of the expo is always the number of giveaways guests can register for. For example, one couple won a full nursery at last year’s expo.

“You can register for a lot of free prizes, and everyone loves giveaways,” she said. “But aside from that, there are so many educational opportunities at this expo. Finding out what’s in the community — I’ve heard so many people say ‘Oh, I found so-and-so at the expo.’ Plus, coming out and running into people you know and finding out what support groups are out there to join — there’s just so much offered.”

Upstate Birth Network is a nonprofit, educational resource for parents in Greenville, offering consults to expecting mothers in search of pediatricians, doulas, midwives, chiropractors, childbirth classes and more.

“We want to make sure parents have more choices and understand what’s available to them in the Upstate,” Conway said.
