Weekend events include character breakfasts, consignment sale, more

Whether you love shopping for deals or getting outside, there are plenty of family-friendly events planned this weekend.

Switch-A-Roos Children’s Consignment Sale will kick off at 9 a.m. Friday at TD Convention Center in Greenville. Families can find new and gently used children’s items at affordable prices during this three-day sale. Hours are 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday. “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse” will be presented by The Spartanburg Youth Theatre at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg. Lake Conestee Park Educators will lead families on a fun afternoon outing called Nature’s Sweethearts 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Lake Conestee Nature Park in Greenville. Attendees will learn about the unique relationships between different organisms in the park and then create an animal-themed Valentine inspired by the book “My Heart is like a Zoo” by Michael Hall. Weather permitting, activities will include a campfire and warm beverages. Dress accordingly. The event is geared for children ages 4 – 8 accompanied by an adult. All ages are welcome. Greer Cultural Arts Council is sponsoring Princesses and Pancakes 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. Saturday at Fatz Café in Greer. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage links, maple syrup, butter, mixed fruit, coffee, tea or milk. Adult tickets are $7, and children 6 and younger can eat free; however, there is a limit of one free child’s plate per adult ticket. Proceeds support Greer Cultural Arts. The Junior League of Spartanburg will sponsor Storybook Breakfast, one of its annual fund-raising events to promote literacy in Spartanburg County, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. There are two seating times: 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Storybook Breakfast is suitable for children of all ages, and will be held at the Cleveland Park Event Center. Attendees will enjoy a buffet breakfast at storybook-themed tables, including “Curious George,” “Madeline,” “Pete the Cat,” “Where the Wild Things Are” and Dr. Seuss. There will be appearances by several characters, a balloon artist, music and children will receive a copy of a Spartanburg-based book written by Leah Anderson. It has been a while since Roper Mountain Science Center hosted a Second Saturday event, but kids can dream big while exploring the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics this weekend. STEMFest is 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, and local engineers and professionals will host demonstrations and activities to keep families excited about these disciplines. Enjoy hands-on activities and challenges with robots, drones, LEGO and more. Admission is $8 for adults and teens, $7 for children ages 4 – 12, and free for members and children 3 and younger. A Family Art Adventure is 2 – 3 p.m. Sunday at the Greenville County Museum of Art. Get creative and make a print using gelatin plates with a variety of colors, materials and shapes, including hearts and flowers for Valentine’s Day. Recommended for ages 6 and older. Visit
