Hockey, a parade, a play, more bring family fun this weekend
Now that the snow has melted and warmer weather is here, it’s a good chance to get outdoors with the family. Fortunately, there are plenty of weekend events suited for all ages.
A Geocache Journey will be held at is 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Friday at the South Carolina Botanical Garden in Clemson. Learn about geocaching, an interactive way of using technological applications to search for and learn about hidden things in the environment. Smart phones or tablets are encouraged. Once again, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits are offering kid-friendly events at their home games this weekend. Friday night is Star Wars Night at Bon Secours Wellness Arena as the Swamp Rabbits take on Norfolk beginning at 7 p.m. Then it’s Video Game Night at 7 p.m. Saturday, followed by Teacher Appreciation Day during Sunday’s 3 p.m. game. Family Fun Packs are available Friday and Sunday for $60, which includes four tickets to the game, four hot dogs, four drinks, four bags of chips, souvenirs. A special parade and stadium celebration will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday morning in Clemson to celebrate the Clemson Tigers’ winning the national championship. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. in downtown Clemson and continue to Memorial Stadium at Clemson University, where a stadium party will follow. Stadium gates will open at 7 a.m., and parking will be limited.
If visiting the zoo is on your agenda, Greenville Zoo is sponsoring a couple of kid-friendly events this weekend. Learn about textured tails, scales, feathers and more Saturday during the Zoo Tots program, for ages 2 – 3 with a guardian. To register, visit http://www.greenvillezoo.com. A nature play outing with the Greenville Zoo’s Family Nature Club is also at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mountain Goat Climbing. “Wake Up, Brother Bear,” a Wee Play Theatre performance, is at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday at South Carolina Children’s Theatre. Watch a waterfall melt, meet a butterfly, chase a fish and skate on an ice pond. Children get to join the action with a bag of props. Tickets are $8 each. United Community Bank’s Ice on Main closes Monday, so this weekend is your last chance to strap on ice skates and glide around an outdoor rink in Greenville’s downtown. The rink is open 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday. The rink will also be open 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday for its last day. Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and younger, which includes skate rentals.
