Star Wars, Lego-themed events highlight weekend fun for families
If your family loves all things Star Wars or LEGOs, you’re in luck this weekend.
Kick off your weekend with a building block party at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hughes Main Library. The event is aimed at children ages 2 – 5 to build blocks of different shapes and sizes. Adult supervision is required for this free activity. For more information, visit http://greenvillelibrary.org.
Families who enjoy nature can take a family hike at 10 a.m. Friday at Paris Mountain State Park. The Creek Ranger hike is a 1-mile, ranger-led walk to Mountain Creek and back, searching for animals and their homes. Participants wade into the creek and use a net to find animals that live there! A closer look under a microscope and water-quality assessment will follow in the park lab. Participants should bring water shoes if they have them. The park has some available if needed. The cost is $7 per person, payable at the welcome station in place of admission. Registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Does your child love art? Adventures in Art is at 2 p.m. Friday at the Museum and Gallery at Bob Jones University. Children will explore flowers, birds and mythical creatures in the European Old Master collection and create a project. For details, visit www.bjumg.org or call 864-770-1331.
Barnes and Noble Booksellers will host a special Star Wars-themed event at 7 p.m. Friday at the store on Woodruff Road inside the Shops at Greenridge and its Haywood Road location. All ages who love Wookies, Storm Troopers and Jedi Knights are invited to participate in special offers, trivia, bingo, giveaways, cosplay and a special learn-to-play Star Wars X-Wing Game event. Special activities for young Jedis will also be offered.
On Saturday the store will teach all ages how to become a Pokemon champion at a special Pokemon-themed event at 4 p.m. Kids can take photos with a Pikachu and Charizard standee, enjoy special offers and more as Barnes and Noble celebrates 20 years of Pokémon at stores nationwide. Build It Day is 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday at The Children’s Museum of the Upstate. Explore different ways to build, including Legos and more. “The Little Red Hen” will be presented at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the LOGOS Theatre in Taylors. This fun and witty children’s musical features original music and choreography as the Little Red Hen and other farm animals learn that God rewards the diligent and gives grace to the humble. The Bastille Day Greenville Festival runs 1 – 6 p.m. Saturday at Ecole Francaise Bilingue, 2 Fisher Road, Greenville. The family-friendly event will feature free admission, entertainment by Magic by Marty, a bounce house, juggler, live music, children’s activities, Poodle Parade (all dogs are welcome), and food for sale from Legrand Bakery, Crepes & Croissants and Chef Manigault’s La Vielle Maison. All proceeds go to Black Sheep Farm, an organization that helps senior citizens, veterans and children build relationships with horses to overcome personal difficulties and foster a positive attitude.
