Celebrate 'Star Wars' and the holidays
There are probably two things on most families’ minds this weekend: the holidays and “Star Wars.” After you’ve headed to the theater to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” consider enjoying one of these kid-friendly events.
Hagood Mill will celebrate Ed Harrison Memorial Celtic Christmas from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Hagood Mill Historic Site in Pickens. Admission is free but a parking fee is $5. The event will feature music, crafts, food and a visit from Santa. Kids and adults alike are welcome to visit with Santa 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring a camera and Ole Saint Nick will pose for a picture with you. The Hagood Mill is located three miles north of Pickens off Highway 178 or 5 1/2 miles south of Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway 11 off Highway 178 at 138 Hagood Mill Road.
If your family is feeling the force, you can stop by Cakes By U anytime between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 19 to decorate Star Wars cakes and cupcakes, with prices starting at $8. The do-it-yourself decorating bakery is located at 637 Congaree Road in Greenville. For details, visit www.cakesbyu.com.
The Greenville Swamp Rabbits will host its annual Star Wars Night beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday. All fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite hero or villain and meet some of the most popular characters from the Star Wars series on the concourse, courtesy of the 501st Legion. Doors open at 6 p.m. Families can take advantage of a Family Force Pack for the hockey game, which includes four red-level tickets and two bottleneck socks for $60. Chances are you know about Roper Mountain Holiday Lights and the Holiday Lights Safari at Hollywild, but here are two other options this year.
Upstate Holiday Light Show is open 5:30 p.m.-midnight, nightly at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, 3800 Calhoun Memorial Highway, Easley. Cost is $20 per car, and the display will be open through Jan. 3. The speedway will be decked out in holiday splendor; in addition to lights, there’s a petting zoo and Santa’s Workshop. For more details, visit www.upstatelights.com.
Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland at Heritage Park is a drive-thru Christmas light and music show featuring lights synchronized to holiday music. Santa's Village includes pictures with Santa, food vendors, rides, a petting zoo and more. Christmas Wonderland is open every night through Jan. 3.
