The Upstate is blessed with a tradition of barbecue, and in South Carolina that doesn’t mean grilling. You’ll find some of the best barbecue the Upstate has to offer at these resteraunts.
Bucky’s Bar-B-Q – Originally a hole-in-the-wall on Roper Mountain Road, Bucky’s reputation for excellent barbecue created demand for today’s four locations. Known for ribs and pork, Bucky’s offers sides such as extra-sweet sweet potatoes. If you’re lucky, you might catch the brisket. Four locations include 1700 Roper Mountain Road, 2010 Perimeter Road and 1326 N. Pleasantburg Dr. in Greenville and 103 N. Main St., Fountain Inn.
Henry’s Smokehouse – Henry’s North Main location has been an Upstate classic for decades, serving up pulled pork, barbecue hash and hand-cut fries. Now Henry’s operates three locations: 240 Wade Hampton Blvd. and 1842 Woodruff Road in Greenville and 123 N. Main St., Simpsonville.
Smoke on the Water – Located in the heart of downtown Greenville, Smoke on the Water offers an upscale take on traditional barbeque, plus crab cakes, Bananas Foster, and a signature chocolate pecan pie. It is located at 1 Augusta St., Suite 202, Greenville.
Mutt’s BBQ – With three locations, Mutt’s BBQ features a broad menu of barbecued ribs, seafood options like shrimp and deviled crab, plus a Southern-style buffet with fried chicken. Luke Hardy, general manager, said the restaurant creates a special offering on Sundays, such as beef roast. Mutt’s provides a unique variety of sauces – tomato-based, sweet and smoky, mustard, and vinegar wash. Locations include 101 West Road, Greer; 1020 Powdersville Road, Easley; and 214 E. Butler Road, Mauldin.
Little Pigs Bar-B-Q – With a statewide clientele, Little Pigs Bar-B-Q specializes in chopped pork. Burger and hot dogs are basic, but loyal patrons find the onion rings and hushpuppies exceptional. It is located at 2428 Hudson Road in Greer.
