Though Snack Works calls itself a neighborhood grab-and-go, it is much more than that. It is the one-of-everything minimart and griddle that I wish was close to my home.
Owner Patrick DeMarco spent a career with the Starwood Hotel chain before moving to Greenville three years ago to get closer to family. He opened Snack Works to be his own boss and create the type of lunch he always wanted.
His fresh-to-order capability shines on the plate, especially the paninis and flatbreads. The Snack Works Panini is my favorite. I’ve ordered it for dozens of friends, all to rave reviews. The open-sided bread (not roll) is really spot on and filled with sliced chicken breast, spinach, tomato, cheese and pesto mayo. And, it’s only $3.99 (really). My fifth-grade son can power one down.
My daughter likes the wraps and the flatbreads and, of course, the smoothies. There’s always a great a la carte side item available too. I order the steamed broccoli if they have it, but on Thursdays, get the baked sweet potatoes.
The Cilantro Chicken Lime Flatbread is another wow order at just $4.99. Flatbread pizza dough is thrown on a griddle and topped with chicken, olive oil, cilantro, avocado and then dressed with lime juice. It’s upfront with its flavor profile, fresh and delicious.
We love coming here because you can stuff two adults at Snack Works for less than $10 and a family can spend $20 or less for a fresh, handmade meal at an independent eatery on Main Street. Sit and soak that in. This summer they are extending their hours to 7 p.m., so Snack Works becomes doable for dinnertime.
DeMarco’s customer service is informed, attentive and efficient, all while being friendly but not pushy. It’s a breath of professional fresh air.
Eat Out! tip: Order coffee for two and your beans will be ground and French pressed tableside with warmed milk and raw sugar. Sit back and enjoy the place you’ve discovered.
The bottom line
Snack Works has lunch or dinner ready for you this summer. If you want to eat at Falls Park, they’ll even package your picnic to go.
