Want great food and a great deal? Each month, Kate Churches highlights a local restaurant in Upstate Parent magazine that offers a kid-friendly meal deal. Here's a look at some of our favorites!
Have you been to the remodeled Denny’s in Greenville yet? Children ages 12 and younger can eat free 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays. The deal requires an adult meal purchase to earn two free kids’ meals. Children must order from the children’s menu. The deal is good at all Denny’s Upstate locations in Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson and Boiling Springs.
In addition to Mutt’s BBQ signature barbecue plates, they serve a Southern-style buffet with dishes like fried chicken and collards. Daily, children under 3 are free. Children ages 4 to 8 pay a discounted price of $5.49 for the buffet, and children ages 9 to 12 pay $6.26.

On Mondays, a purchase of an adult entrée earns one free kid’s meal after 4 p.m. The adult must order a standard entrée, not the daily special or a pizza. Options for kids’ meals include spaghetti, baked ziti, chicken fingers or alfredo. Boston Pizzeria is located at 1262 Woodruff Road, Greenville.
Any day of the week, children younger than 3 can eat free with a paying adult at Cicis Pizza. Kids’ drinks are not free, but no purchase of drink is required. Cicis has the same deal for all four Upstate locations: Greenville – 583 Haywood Road, Suite 503; Spartanburg – 150 E. Blackstock Road, Suite D; Easley – 6020 Calhoun Memorial Highway; and Anderson — 3128 N. Main St.
Receive a free kid's meal with purchase of an adult meal between 5 p.m. and closing Wednesdays through Saturdays at Runway Café at Greenville Downtown Airport. You must mention seeing the ad on their website, www.runwaycafegmu.com. The offer is not valid during lunch. The cafe is located at 21 Airport Road Ext., Greenville. Hours are 11 a.m. – 2:20 p.m. Sundays – Tuesdays, 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays – Thursdays, and 11 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. Fridays – Saturdays. For details, call 864-991-8488.
Wayback Burgers in Greenville and Spartanburg both have deals for kids. However, the deals vary by location. In Greenville, each adult combo earns a kid’s meal on Wednesdays. For Spartanburg, each adult combo purchase allows one kid’s meal for 99 cents on Tuesdays. The kid’s meal includes fries and drink. Kids can choose between a grilled cheese sandwich, macaroni and cheese, burgers or hot dogs.

Romano’s Macaroni Grill
From 4 to 10 p.m. Mondays and Tuesday, Romano’s Macaroni Grill offers a buy one, get one free kid’s meal. Kids’ meals include macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, grilled chicken and broccoli pasta, and pizza. Drinks are included. Gelato (an Italian-style ice cream custard) is available for an extra dollar. Patrons also may sign up for weekly discounts via email, such as buy one, get one free adult meals or 40 percent off family meals.
Romano’s Macaroni Grill, 105 Beacon Drive, Greenville
Hibachi Café offers one free kid’s meal per adult purchase daily for dinner only. While adults have hibachi or sushi, kids can rice with chicken, steak or shrimp. Kids can also choose hibachi or teriyaki chicken or steak on a skewer. Chicken fingers are an alternative. Hibachi Café, 101 Verdae Boulevard, Greenville.
Applebee’s kids meals are now all day on Tuesdays with two choices. They feature a “Hungry” and a “Very Hungry” option. For example, the “Hungry” features one mini-cheeseburger, while the “Very Hungry” offers two mini burgers. Both “Hungry” and “Very Hungry” come with a drink and side item. Side choices include fries, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, applesauce and broccoli. The “Hungry” deal is $1, and the “Very Hungry” deal is $1.99. Available at all Upstate Applebee’s locations.
S&S Cafeteria has been a Greenville institution for generations. An adult plate consists of traditional Southern fare – a meat with two vegetables, plus bread. The child’s plate is the same, only scaled down to appropriate portions for young diners. One adult meal buys up to two children’s meals for 99 cents, anytime. S&S Cafeteria is located at 1037 N. Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville.
Mellow Mushroom Spartanburg
At Mellow Mushroom, 464 E. Main St., Spartanburg, one adult purchase earns two free kids’ meals all day on Sundays. The adult purchase may be pizza or a sandwich. The kid’s deal includes one slice of pizza, a pretzel and a drink. Offer is good at Spartanburg location only.
Mojo’s Famous Burgers
Craving a burger or wings? From 5 – 9 p.m. on Mondays, one adult purchase earns a free kid’s meal (ages 10 and younger) at Mojo’s Famous Burgers and More, 21 Plaza Drive, Travelers Rest. Dine-in only. Each kid’s meal includes fries and drink, burger, hot dog, grilled cheese or nuggets.
Get your barbecue on! At Henry’s Smokehouse in Simpsonville, one adult meal earns two kids meals 5 – 8 p.m. Tuesdays – Thursdays. The deal applies to children ages 12 and under; children must be present. Dine-in, at the 123 N. Main St. Simpsonville location only.
Tuesdays after 5 p.m., earn two free kids’ meals per adult purchase (must include a drink or chips) at Schlotzsky’s. Kids’ meals come with drinks and cookies. Children must be present; applies to dine-in and carry-out purchases only. Schlotzsky’s, 103 Old Boiling Springs Road, Greer.
Wade’s, 100 N. Pine St., Spartanburg, offers a unique tiered-pricing kids menu for dine-in patrons (not for take-out) every day. Children under 6 eat for $1.95, with meat options of a hot dog or chicken leg, served with two sides. The standard kids’ meal for ages 7 – 12 offers more food and costs $4.90.
On Wednesdays, many Zaxby’s locations feature a kids night where 99-cent meals are offered with an adult purchase. On Thursdays, Zaxby’s miniature chicken sandwich, the Nibbler, is 99 cents. Deals vary by location. Zaxby’s has numerous locations throughout the Upstate.
Which Wich sandwich shop recently began offering a buy one, get one free deal. Buy one adult sub and get a free kid’s sandwich on Tuesdays. The offer is good all day. In addition to subs, Which Wich also offers sandwich fixings in a lettuce wrap or a bowl. Which Wich, 1129 Woodruff Road, Greenville.
Most kids’ deals are weeknights, but Tijuana Flats offers deals on Saturdays and Sundays. Each adult purchase earns one free kid’s meal. The fast casual restaurant features Mexican-inspired fare. Kids can also pick chicken fingers. Two Greenville locations: 586 Haywood Road and 1139 Woodruff Road.
American Roadside Burger
Finding a kid’s deal downtown is no easy task, but American Roadside Burger offers a Monday night discount. For each adult entrée purchase, a kid’s meal is 99 cents. Additional kid’s meals are $2.99. Build your own burger or try a combination. 301 E. McBee Ave., Greenville.
Texas Roadhouse has a special weekly kids’ night featuring balloon animals, face-painting and magic 5 – 9 p.m. Tuesdays. The menu includes hot dogs, steak and ribs. Gluten-friendly options are available. Note that peanuts are freely available. Texas Roadhouse, 140 Wade Hampton Blvd., Taylors.
It's the easiest free kid's night in town to remember, and parents have the chance to bombard kids with veggies from a salad bar. Your kid might only eat a bite, but at least you didn't have to buy a bushel of everything you wanted her to try. Then, she can go back to eating her freshly made chicken tenders.
Fresh to Order
When the mom is craving Asian and dad just wants a burger, try Fresh to Order choices, including salads, burgers and paninis. After 4 p.m., kids 12 and younger can eat for 99 cents, drinks not included, one per adult meal purchase. Fresh to Order, 1025 Woodruff Road, Greenville.
Build your own pita sandwich or choose a Mediterranean-style option at Babaziki all day Thursdays and receive a kid's meal — a three-cheese grilled panini or kid's plate with chicken or falafel with rice, pita and choice of two sides — for each adult purchase. Kids eat free after 5 p.m. on Tuesdays at Schlotzsky's Deli off Pelham Road in Greenville. The restaurant is located at 103 Old Boiling Springs Road, Greer.
Fried Green Tomatoes
Parents of picky eaters, remember: Everything tastes better when it's fried! All day Saturdays and from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, families receive two free kids' meals with each adult meal purchase. Southern Fried Green Tomatoes, 1175 Woods Crossing Road, Greenville.
Kids eat free 4-10 p.m. Tuesdays with the purchase of an adult entree. TGIFriday's is located at 1114 Woodruff Road, Greenville.
For a little Asian flavor, check out Red Bowl at 27 S. Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville. Each adult entrée purchase earns one free kid's meal. The menu features Japanese stir fry, bento boxes, and sushi, plus vegetarian and pan-Asian options, including pad Thai and Chinese-style dishes like fried rice.
Steak 'n Shake
Summer is a great time for burgers and shakes! Steak 'n Shake offers deals each weekend. Kids eat free for each $8 spent by an adult. Kids' meals feature burgers and a variety of sides. Drinks are not included. Snag half-price shakes 2 – 5 p.m. weekends. Steak 'n Shake, 499 Congaree Road, Greenville.
Moe's Southwest Grill
Moe's Southwest Grill offers deals for kids two days each week. After 4 p.m. Tuesdays, kids eat free with the purchase of an adult meal. After 4 p.m. Sundays, kids' meals are 99 cents with an adult meal purchase. Haywood and Woodruff Roads, Greenville; Dorman Centre, Spartanburg.
On Wednesdays and Sundays two kids meals at Firehouse Subs are 99 cents each with the purchase of an adult combo meal, for dine-in only. In Greenville, the Pelham Road, Woodruff Road and Haywood Road locations participate. Spartanburg locations on Pine Street and East Blackstock Road participate.
In the mood for a sandwich, a hot bowl of soup or a massive baked potato? Get one free kids' meal per adult purchase after 5 p.m. Tuesdays at McAlister's Deli, 105-B Dorman Centre Road, Spartanburg; and 535-A Congaree Road, 1708-B Augusta St., and 1401-A Woodruff Road, Greenville.
Quaker Steak & Lube
Kids eat free at Quaker Steak and Lube every Sunday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Even better, as long as there's one adult meal purchased there's no limit to free kids meals! Menu options include sandwiches, salads, wings, ribs and desserts.10 Chrome Drive, Greenville.
Sometimes it's nice to have an alternative to pizza and movie night. How about pancakes? IHOP offers a free kid's meal with each adult meal purchased from 4 – 10 p.m. at three local locations: 915 Wade Hampton Boulevard and 1 Park Woodruff Drive, Greenville; and 6525 Calhoun Memorial Highway, Easley.
