If the cold weather doesn’t dampen your wandering spirit, there are a handful of family friendly events happening this weekend to keep you entertained.
Starry Nights kicks off a new year at Roper Mountain Science Center each Friday. Show times are 6 and 7:30 p.m. at the T. C. Hooper Planetarium. Each show will begin with Carolina Skies, a live talk about the constellations currently in the night sky, followed by the featured show. The 6 p.m. feature will be “Perseus and Andromeda” and the 7:30 show will be “STARS.” A separate ticket is required for each show. The Daniel Observatory will also be open from 7:30 – 10 p.m., weather permitting, for viewing through the 23-inch telescope. Visit www.ropermountain.org.
Kids’ Night Out is 6 – 10 p.m. Friday at The Pavilion Recreation Complex. The night includes playing at the bounce house, ice skating, themed crafts, a pizza dinner and/or popcorn and a movie. M Judson Booksellers on Main Street in Greenville will host a children’s story time with Miss Debi at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Kid’s Nook. Snacks will be provided by The Chocolate Moose. For more information, call 864-704-2410.
Barnes and Noble Booksellers will host a “What Do You Do With a Chance?” storytime event at 11 a.m. Saturday, based on the picture book series by bestselling author Kobi Yamada and illustrator Mae Besom. Activities will follow.
It’s Pirates & Princesses Night starting at 7 p.m. Saturday as the Greenville Swamp Rabbits take to the ice against the Atlanta Gladiators. Kids can search for hidden treasure or wear a dress fit for royalty. Pirates and princesses will be at the Bon Secour Wellness Arena for special activities, including a scavenger hunt around the arena. Family Fun Day is 1 – 4 p.m. Sunday at the Upcountry History Museum. Spend the afternoon with special guest, Ariel the Mermaid. In honor of Jan Brett’s exhibition, “The World of Jan Brett,” and her newest book, “The Mermaid,” the museum will have crafts, games and story times.
