The town of Duncan may seem like a haul from Greenville, but Stone Ledge Park, in Spartanburg County, is just a little more than 10 minutes away from the popular Kids’ Planet at Century Park in Greer. The lovely landscaping, unique play structures, and walking trail were a fun change of scenery when we were itching for something new and different to try.

The tunnels on both the “big kid” and “little kid” play structures were the cool features for my kids. They had a blast on a total of four tunnels. Wouldn’t you have loved that as a kid? There is also a rope and metal climbing structure. My kids called it the “spider web.” A tall, artificial waterfall added some nice ambience, as well as lovely stone structures for the picnic pavilions and restrooms atop the hill, with an original metalwork structure adding more interest to the landscaping.

The downside? The signage! Even with GPS, it was hard to know we arrived. Knowing that Stone Ledge is adjacent to Shipwreck Cove Water Park may help. Also, I found that there were many fallen trees on the walking trail, so maintenance was overdue on our visit. The walking trail definitely wasn’t flat, though, which can add some heat to your work-out if you’re looking for more than a flat track experience.

Stone Ledge Park is located at 119 S. Spencer St., Duncan.
