Consistent exercise is at the top of many people’s list of new year’s resolutions. Fortunately, the Upstate has several running and walking events in January to help you meet your fitness goals.
The Spartanburg YMCA Hair of the Dog Run, 9 a.m. Jan. 1, Thomas E Hannah YMCA. Three different distance events will take place to accommodate varying fitness levels: 2 miles, 5 miles and 10 miles. Breakfast will be served after the run.
Race for the Grasshopper 5K, 9 a.m. Jan. 7, Cowpens Battlefield. The annual race commemorates the 1781 Battle at Cowpens. The race is a fast, certified course run on the road around the battlefield. A free 1-mile kids fun run will be held before the 5K race.
Resolution Run Half Marathon and 5K, 9 a.m. Jan. 14, Travelers Rest. When you run the Resolution Run, not only are you working toward your own goals, you are helping others meet theirs. Proceeds from the event support the YMCA’s Open Doors Campaign, which provides scholarships for children and families in the community so that they can participate in YMCA programs.
The Greenville News Run Downtown 5K, Jan. 21. Run Downtown is the only 5K with a course that goes right down Main Street. It’s a fun course with lots to do afterward.
A Hero’s 5K, 8:30 a.m. Jan. 28, Furman University, Greenville. This run/walk focuses on raising awareness of the sacrifices made by military personnel. Proceeds go to Upstate Warrior Solutions, an organization that assist veterans upon their return to Upstate, South Carolina.
